Season 2 of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will introduce one of the Marvel universe’s most long running villain’s: Crusher Creel AKA the Absorbing Man. Creel will be be played by Generation Kill’s Brian Patrick Wade.
Marvel’s announcement only refers to the Absorbing Man by his lesser known civilian identity, but it looks like we will see him with his powers intact. Marvel’s announcement reads: “With his ability to absorb the properties of anything he touches, Creel will put Coulson and his team through their paces when their second season kicks off.”
The Absorbing Man was introduced by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1965’s Journey into Mystery #114. Over the years he’s been seen battling the Hulk, Thor and the Avengers as a group, as well as once being a member of the Masters of Evil.
It looks like we will see a number of characters that fans of the Marvel Universe will be familiar with, including Adrianne Palicki (Bobbi Morse/Mockingbird), Reed Diamond (Daniel Whitehall), Nick Blood (S.T.R.I.K.E’s Lance Hunter), as well as original characters played by Lucy Lawless (Agent Isabelle Hartley), Henry Simmons (Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie)and Kyle MacLachlan (Skye’s father).
With a number of recognisable Marvel names being included in the new season this will address criticisms made by fans that the show wasn’t capitalising on the number of well established characters available in the universe.
