Wesley Snipes has starred in three Blade movies since 1998. It could be argued that the first Blade kicked off the renaissance in the comic book movie industry.
He recently made comment to MTV.com about a desire to return to the role that he had made his own, “I’d be open to it. I think we’ve got some stones left unturned and there’s some latitude left for us to build on and I’d love to get back in the suit again and do some things I’ve learned how to do now that I didn’t know how to do then.”
It is now being reported that he has signed on for $3 million to return to the franchise once again.
No official word has come from Snipes or Marvel Studios and the reports are coming from gossip sites such as The Toronto Sun and The New York Daily News. However Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, has stated in the past that the rights for the Blade property had returned to Marvel Studios (along with the rights to Ghost Rider and Punisher) and just needed the right time to move forward with it.
With the oncoming Doctor Strange movieopening up the occult corner of the Marvel Universe it is possible that the time is now right for a Blade reboot.
Who knows, maybe my 14-year-old dream of a Rise of the Midnight Sons movie adaptation may come sooner rather than later.
