There was a bit of a panic as the weekend approached this week when several online news outlets started to report on rumours of Channing Tatum looking to exit production of the Gambit solo movie. Alleged sources where apparently so certain that various Gawker media sites started posting “reasons why Tatum should stay” type articles but it is our relief to reveal that the rumours are unfounded.
Not only is Tatum not looking for a way out, he has signed the contract and is looking to play the Cajun trickster on a long term basis not unlike Hugh Jackman with Wolverine. It would appear that Fox is looking to restart its original X-Men origins idea and run solo movies for the most popular heroes (Wolverine, Deadpool and now Gambit) and weave them in and out of the main movies to try and emulate the Marvel cinematic universe.
The film which will also be co-produced by Tatum will hit the big screens in October next year and will be directed by Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and will hopefully show Gambit in a more promising light that his last appearance.
