The main cast of the new Death Note movie coming later this year have been announced and photographed in costume.
The movie is a sequel to the original live-action adaptations and stars: Sōsuke Ikematsu (The Last Samurai, Pale Moon) as Ryūzaki, a famous detective who has taken over from L; Masahiro Higashide (Parasyte: Part 1, The Kirishima Thing) as Tsukuru Mishima an investigator researching on Death Notes; and Masaki Suda (Assassination Classroom. Kamen Rider W) as Yūgi Shion a cyber terrorist who idolizes Kira, the protagonist of the original series.
The story will follow the battle between Ryuzaki and Yugi, the successors of L and Kira, in the year 2016. Set in multiple locations around the world the movie will feature not just one, but six Death Notes this time. A little known rule in the Note is that only six may be on the human world at any one time. The film is being directed by Shinsuke Sato, who has prior experience with anime adaptations having directed the live action version of Gantz.
Death Note: 2016 has no set release date but is scheduled for cinemas in Japan this autumn.
