You can say what you like about the Disney Infinity series of “toys to life” video games but you cant deny just how fun it is to play. Ninja Theory, the guys behind Heavenly Sword and the recent reboot of Devil May Cry helped create a simple yet fairly deep combat combat system complete with skill trees and unique fighting styles for all of the characters. The premise is simple, pick up your favourite Disney or Mavel character, put him or her on your USB base and they appear in game, experiance and progress is stored on the figure so you can continue the adventure at a friends house.
We have already had a lot of classic Disney characters such as Maleficent and Captain Jack Sparrow which was followed up last year with a batch of Marvel characters including Spider-man, Iron Man and Star-Lord. Speculation of some figures based on Lucas film properties had surfaced and today this was confirmed thanks to a listing error from German retailer Saturn.
As you can see from the Image above the first of the 3.0 toys will be based on the Clone Wars animated show which aired on cartoon network prior to Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm and the subsequent cancellation of the show (later to be replaced by Rebels). Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano will be the first two figures available but these are likely to be joined by other members of the Jedi order and hopefully some of the Empire’s finest.
The release date for this set is August 20th for Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, Playstation 4 and WiiU with a Steam release likely to follow shortly after for PC gamers. As someone who spent way too much collecting Amiibos and the last batch of Infinity characters i await the release with an equal measure of excitement and dread.
