Even more Daredevil casting news! After the news that Jon Bernthal will be portraying The Punisher in Season 2 of the smash hit Netflix show, Marvel has officially announced that Élodie Yung will bring the seminal character Elektra to life in Hells Kitchen. Yung has previously starred in GI: Joe: Retaliation and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
Elektra and Daredevil have had a long, tempestuous and strained history in the comics, and judging by Marvels’ quote it seems like they’re aiming to bring that same complex dynamic to the show next season. The official announcement from Marvel is;
“After a worldwide search, we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity,” said Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for.”
Excited yet? Seems like after focusing on Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin in the first season, the showrunners are really mining the great canon of Daredevil with these character additions, and should provide fertile ground to explore Daredevils’ place in the MCU. We’re certainly looking forward to watching Élodie Yung bring life to arguably one of the most important characters in Matt Murdocks’ life.
