The first official promo visual for the live-action adaptation of Kengo Hanazawa’s award winning, darkly-comic horror manga I Am A Hero has been revealed in the January issue of Big Comic Spirits, showing actor Yo Oizumi as protagonist Takao.

Scheduled for general release in Japan on April 23rd, the film follows underachieving (and possibly delusional) artist’s assistant Takao Suzuki, who tries to survive an undead outbreak in the heart of Tokyo, albeit more through blind luck than his own judgment. Although little promotional material has yet been made available, the images in circulation suggest that the film will likely adapt at least the first 8 volumes of the manga, covering Takao’s violent encounter with a hostile survivor group living on the roof of a shopping mall.

I Am A Hero premiered to audience acclaim at the 48th Sitges Film Festival in Spain last month and has also subsequently featured at the Stockholm Film Festival, although an English-language release has yet to be confirmed.  Dark Horse will also begin printing the manga in the US in April.
