In a strange twist of fate Charlie Cox, the actor best known for his role as Matt Murdock aka Daredevil was nearly our young Han Solo! So used to playing a blind man and never making eye contact with those he was talking to may have actually cost him the job!
Cox commented “I had gone to an audition — one of those things that are super secretive and they don’t tell you, but I’m pretty sure it was for the ‘Han Solo’ reboot — and halfway through it, the casting director stopped me and said, ‘Why aren’t you looking at me?’ I realized I had gotten into a habit of not making eye contact, because the only thing I had done for two years is play someone who is blind,” he shared. “I never got invited back, probably because they couldn’t figure out why I was acting like a complete idiot.”
The role eventually went to Alden Ehrenreich with Cox staying on to play the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen for the foreseeable future right up to and including season 2 of Daredevil and the Defenders spin off which will also feature Jessica Jones and Luke Cage.
Whilst it may be a missed opportunity for Cox as an actor I doubt many of us are lamenting his lost role and are looking forward to seeing him in more of his horned Marvel adventures.
