Now that the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer has gone public, Marvel has released some more concept art of the super-villain in the title.
The Ultron we first see in the trailer looks very similar to the Iron Man drones we last saw in the third installment of Tony Stark’s series, with the addition of the Avengers symbol on the chest plate.
The (Ultimate?) Ultron we see in the trailer looks dramatically different from the various incarnations we have seen in comics. This is mostly likely because the Ultron we will see in the film will be a creation of Tony Stark, not Hank Pym of Ant-man fame. Comic Ultron has always had an almost insect-like look to his features while in the stills from the trailer we see him with an almost human like face, capable of emoting with teeth and eyebrows.
James Spader (Stargate, The Blacklist) who is voicing Ultron spoke recently to Total Film about playing Ultron saying: “Ultron is psychopathic. He’s really batshit crazy!” He then went on to mention that it was the almost child-like traits of Ultron that attracted him to the role when Joss Whedon offered it.
“There’s a humorous aspect to him, which is something that drew me in from the very first conversation I had with Joss. In many ways he’s a child, this character, because he’s a brand new being who’s just come to be,” Spader said.
“And yet, through artificial intelligence, he has an incredible capacity for knowledge. So he’s a very powerful, smart child.”
Avengers 2: Age of Ultron is due for release in April 2015 in the UK.
