This weekend was the Jump Festa event in Japan which is a celebration of the ever popular Shonen Jump brand of Manga. At this event it was announced that the spin off light novel series, Naruto – Itachi Shinden would be getting its own anime adaptation in Spring 2016. Though not confirmed as its own TV show or a part of the still running Naruto Shippuden series, this is still exciting news of the show and of the rogue Uchiha clan member.

Itachi first starred in the original Naruto anime/manga as the brother of Team 7’s Sasuke Uchiha. Itachi, a former Anubu elite slaughtered his entire clan leaving only his brother alive fled the village of Konohagakure to join the criminal organisation Akatsuki. He is a stoic, secretive character who fast became a favourite with fans who wanted an anti-hero to relate to. The first promotional image has been released to the public and can be viewed below.
