Happy Birthday to the BGCP; we hit the big 4 this week and as ever we celebrated in style at The Big Glasgow Comic & Craft Fair at the Glasgow Trades Hall. Crammed with quality traders offering all your comic and pop culture needs, plus a little Pokémon hunting, Maid in Scotland maid service and as ever a great turn out for the cosplay competition; we all had a great time, especially this bunch.
Also please do check out these photos from Hairy Monster Digital Arts and if you see anything you fancy from our traders make a note as many will be returning again very soon. In fact we must be mad here at the BGCP as we are doing it all again this weekend (6th August) at the Murray Owen Centre in East Kilbride and for those that came to our last event will know this will be huge.
Following last week’s movie blowout at the San Diego Comic Con we are still picking up a few scraps of news, the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 trailer is still to drop, but even those lucky enough to have seen it are complaining about spoilers, to which director James Gunn has already respectively explained why it is not and that there are plenty more surprises to come.
Some pics that came rather late were also connected to another Marvel film that is suddenly getting more interesting, Thor: Ragnarok, a photo and video showing off the Hulks armour and now this shot of the Hulk wearing it during what looks like some arena style gladiatorial battle.
Marvel have also made a small change to the next Avengers movie title by dropping the Part I; so now we have Avengers: Infinity War and an unknown title for the second part.
With so much DC news dropping last week one interesting piece was held back till the end, with DC announcing that Geoff Johns had been promoted to President of DC Entertainment. For fans of his comics this is great news as ever since his arrival on the scene he has knocked out plenty of amazing stories and hopefully this will continue and reflect in the up and coming movie releases.
Having a limited big screen release and now available on general release Batman’s newest animated adventure arrived with The Killing Joke. This adaptation of the well-loved classic comic originally by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland was met with mixed reactions (check out our review here). Many were happy with the Batman/Joker side of the story with both Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill reprising their respective roles but the add-on on a Batgirl story and more importantly how the character had been treated let many people down.
Sticking with DC and Supergirl is about to share a lot more screen time with her cousin Kal-El as Tyler Hoechlin will be donning the red boots and cape in the first two episodes of the new season. The initial promotional photo was not received well here at BGCP but since then a few more dropped and we are now beginning to warm to him, maybe it was those buns of steel.
A little bit of sad news, or more importantly sad for your wallets as though announced a few weeks ago by Diamond Comic Distributors we are now starting to see the effects of the Brexit as the price of your comics in the UK will start to rise on average of 20-30p and even more on trades, could this spell the end of the more specialised comic shops?
Not wanting to end on a downer, here is a spoof Quentin Tarantino “Suicide Squad” trailer from the team at Loot Crate.
