You can tell when a console has started to find its feet properly as we start to see lots of Japanese made games suddenly pop up. Ni No Kuni II was revealed at last night’s Playstation experience event and it looks gorgeous.
Ni No Kuni was a collaboration between Japan’s most beloved animation house Studio Ghibli and Level 5, the studio behind the Professor Layton series and PS2 classic Dark Cloud. The game received mostly positive reviews due to its accessibility and epic story, that said when Studio Ghibli closed its doors it looked like we may never get another game in the series.
Luckily this is not the case and although Ghibli won’t be involved Level 5 are looking to keep the visual style as close as possible even employing the talents of Yoshiyuki Momose on character design. As you can probably tell from the trailer below Joe Hisaishi, the guy behind most of Ghibli’s musical scores is also on board so it still promises to be a magical experience.
